Costs and Reimbursement
Private Health Insurance (Privat) and/or Supplementary Insurance (Beihilfe) in Germany
Private health insurance and supplementary insurance (Beihilfe) generally cover psychotherapy costs. However, the reimbursement depends on your contract with your insurance provider. Before starting therapy, I recommend checking with your insurer to confirm whether they cover consultations with a psychotherapist. I am happy to assist you in clarifying your insurance coverage for psychotherapeutic treatment (cognitive behavioral therapy). My fees follow the official fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP). Click here for a list of psychotherapy services covered.
Public Health Insurance (Gesetzlich) in Germany
I cannot bill public health insurance providers directly because I operate a private practice. However, in certain exceptional cases, therapy may be reimbursed through the cost reimbursement procedure (Kostenerstattungsverfahren). To qualify for reimbursement, you must demonstrate that you could not obtain an appointment with a publicly approved behavioral therapist within a reasonable timeframe and distance. If you have any questions about the reimbursement process, feel free to contact me, or you can contact your health insurance provider directly for further information.
Self-Financing
Of course, you also have the option to cover the cost of therapy yourself. In this case, no formalities are required, and no data will be shared with your health insurance provider.
Living Abroad with Different Health Insurance Coverage?
If you live outside of Germany or have different health insurance conditions, you must check with your provider regarding coverage for therapy sessions. You can also view the current rates in Europe (and worldwide) here (in French) to get a general idea of the costs. I am happy to discuss the necessary steps and assist you.
